Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 820

Chloe was mid-sentence when a wave of nausea hit her out of nowhere. She quickly rolled down the car window, feeling like she might throw up. Connor, noticing her distress, pulled over to the side of the road immediately.

Chloe stepped out and leaned against a nearby tree, trying to catch her breath. Connor, worried, grabbed a bottle of water from the car and handed it to her. "Hey, what's going on?"

Taking a sip, Chloe replied, "I'm not sure. Maybe I just ate too much tonight."

Chloe had always had a touchy stomach, and every now and then, this would happen. Connor suggested, "We should probably get you checked out at a hospital."

"It's too late for that now," Chloe replied, brushing off his concern.

Then, a thought struck Connor. "Do you think you might be pregnant?"

Chloe paused, taken aback. "Pregnant? No way. We've always been careful, right?"

Connor nodded, recalling how cautious they'd been ever since Chloe mentioned her mentor's ominous prediction about pregnancy being risky for her. Despite being a skeptic about such mystical stuff, he couldn't shake off a weird feeling about it. He longed for kids but wanted to meet Chloe's mentor first to get some clarity before they took that step.

Even though Chloe laughed it off, a

little voice in her head made her uneasy. Her period was late, but she had chalked it up to stress from

everything going on lately m

though, she was beginning to wonder. She decided she'd better

get to the hospital for a check-up, just to be sure.

The next day, Chloe called her friend Leah, letting her know she'd be over for lunch. Leah was thrilled and suggested they meet at "Serenity Café." Chloe found this odd but agreed, thinking it was also a good chance to catch up with Ann.

Connor had headed to the office that day. Since CNR's headquarters were in Riverbrook, he usually managed things remotely, but this trip was perfect for tackling some big agenda items.

When Chloe stepped into Serenity

Café, she was taken aback. The place was buzzing with life, packed full of customers. A woman was darting around, serving up dishes and chatting with the patrons. Chloe did a double-take when she realized it was Leah, someone she'd never seen doing this kind of work before. noveldrama

Leah had been through a lot, with her father's infidelity and her mother's early passing, but she'd

always lived comfortably without et

lifting a finger. Seeing her like this was a shock to Chloe, especially given Leah's past issues with Ann.

Leah spotted Chloe at the entrance and hurried over. "You made it! I saved the best seat for you. Come on in and eat."

Instead of sitting down, Chloe jumped in to help Leah with the customers. By around one o'clock, the rush had died down, and Ann came out from the kitchen. The three of them sat together for a meal.

Chloe, unable to hold back her curiosity, asked, "Mom, what's going on? Why are you here?"

Leah hesitated for a moment, then sighed and said, "Your father and I have divorced."
